THE 78TH FRASER HIGHLANDERS

The regiment operates out of the old Garrison Building on Ile Ste-Helene. It undertakes a number of fund raising activities which enable it to support various projects and charities. In addition, the Highlanders hold frequent regimental dinners as well as an Annual Ball.

Since 1966, students wearing authentic uniforms of the eighteenth century have performed drills with muskets, cannons, bagpipes, and drums at the Stewart Museum (the Old Fort, Ile Ste-Helene), and this has become a major tourist attraction.

Pipers and drummers have been part of all Scottish events in the Montreal area for many years.

THE ROYAL SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE SOCIETY

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (founded in Scotland in 1923) has as its main goal to teach and keep this traditional dance form vibrant and accessible. Scottish Country Dance is the traditional ballroom dancing of Scotland, and currently comprises a repertoire of approximately 13,000 dances that are either traditional or in-the-tradition. Weddings and social events in Scotland often include some of these dances as a matter of course.

The Montreal Branch (established in 1957) is part of an international community of about 25,000 members and offers classes for adults in the Montreal area, Cornwall, ON and Vermont, USA. In addition, we host regular dance parties, an annual ball and workshops. A welcoming community of dancers of all ages will be found at any of our classes. Most classes can accommodate dancers at any level, however, the basic technique class is the best entry point for newcomers.
